Five Works of Art by sueworld2003
sueworld2003 contributes awe-inspiring art to the community, sets a standard of excellence for the rest of us, and always has an encouraging comment for other would-be manippers.

Here are 5 works by sueworld2003 that I think are a good representation of her art. I have written my thoughts about the each piece (and hopefully I am not too far off from the artist’s intent). You can see much more of her beautiful work at her flickr site here.

Always Young (Worksafe)

I am affected as soon as I open this piece. I can sense the stillness of the woods and the chill in the air. I could look at this one for hours and continue to marvel at the choices in composition, color, and blending. How did she know to place each branch so perfectly or to choose just the right shade? The way she uses the space takes my breath away. It's easy to get lost in this one.

See the Bleeding Birds Fly (Worksafe)

Strong red and soft cool blue are not colors I would automatically think of together. But they work stunningly in this picture. It can’t be easy to figure out how to blend a staircase and flying birds with Drusilla’s face and make it flow so seamlessly. This is a great showcase for Sue's outstanding ability to blend images together and use textures to create a cohesive emotional impact.

Spike Asylum (semi-Worksafe)

Sue does grunge so well. The scratches and the grungy texture on the wall and on his "jacket" layered on top of the smooth cream and brown bring the piece to a perfect balance. The head fits just right with the body - you would never stop to think they were originally two different images. Her choice for text and a few red splotches finish it off perfectly.

How Much? (Probably wouldn’t open this one at work)

Sue appreciates the dark side, and fortunately she has the skill to make it look pretty. Clearly a bit of an indulgence here, but artistic nonetheless. The red and black around Spike’s eyes and the dullness of his eye color speak of his desperation/resignation/pain. Spike is not going anywhere any time soon. And Sue, I would personally like to compliment you on that forehead wound. Very nice work, indeed!

Chalk (Worksafe)

There is something about the simplicity of this one that makes it so striking. That shot of Spike is always compelling, but the way it appears on the chalkboard as if he is trapped there forever, the simplicity of the wording and the entire composition make it even more tragic. Simply beautiful.

Sue's work is so good that some pieces are often reposted as actual promo shots. Of course her work is all over the place, usually uncredited. Theft is the best compliment, perhaps?

I may improve my technique, but I will never have your mind. It's the way you see things that makes you a true artist in my opinion.
