5 Spander Recs
5 Spander Recs
Well, come on, obviously I've got to rec Spander ;-)
I don't recall which ones have sex and which don't so lets just call them all not worksafe to be on the safe side.
Note: Edited to adjust the location of the lj-cut.

1) whichclothes and Emelye Miller wrote El Cuento del Bucanero y del Vampiro together. Spike and Xander go undercover as luchadores. The art, Spike and Xander dressed as luchadores, is brilliant. Um, not to say the writing isn't also brilliant. The authors took turns writing chapters and obviously took great delight in writing cliffhangers that the other had to finish off. ;-)

“The eye,” he said, pointing at the conspicuously missing body part. “It’s gonna be weird with the eye.”

“Naw,” said Dawn. “It’ll be part of your thing. Ooh! I know! You can be El Bucanero!” She bounced a little on her toes. “You can have, like, a swirly cape and a skull and crossbones on your leotard, and,” she made a breathless little squeally sound. “…and I’m going to go design your costume right now!”

Dawn ran off, followed by several of the Slayers. The rest of them gathered around Buffy and Giles and Willow to strategize. Xander was left all alone, and there was nobody to hear his plaintive little groan. “Leotard?”

2) I'm including Emelye Miller's Plasticine Portents because of the header she put to the story: I hate you all for sucking me into this. Oh, and also because it's a good story.
Xander/Spike, Drusilla, Miss Edith/Spike (in her little dolly dreams)

Xander awoke slowly, turning instinctively into Spike’s embrace.

Or he would have had Spike been there beside him.

Xander rolled off the tiny wooden chair onto the carpet with alarm.

“Oh dear, mustn’t topple yourself, dearie, or no tea for you. You’ll make mummy cross and she’ll have to tie you to the chair like a naughty little kitten.”

3) Given the title, I find it amusing that I'd forgotten this story. I give you baudown's Remembered, If Outlived
After the destruction of Sunnydale, Xander just isn't the same.

They were quiet for a few minutes, and then, "Do you love us, after? Do you love me?"

He'd thought about it, of course. He knew he'd loved them; remembered the feeling. Loved so much that his heart had ached with it, had grown heavy and full with it, had punished him for it. Sometimes, it had overwhelmed him with its power. Was it too much -- a love that had literally stopped the world from ending?

There was something, still. Something that remained. Not an ache any longer, but a tenderness, a faint penumbra around his heart. Like a shiny pink scar covering a wound -- still sensitive to the touch, a reminder of the pain that came before. Something you didn't want to look at too often, but didn't want to fade away completely, so that sometimes you could say, yes, that happened to me.

In the end, he told her he did, and hugged her close.

She let him.

4) skargasm's Arresting Misconceptions
Human AU
This one was a delight to reread.

Rayne clicked off the Dictaphone and turned to William.

“I can't let you hear anymore until you decide whether you're in or out William. Suffice it to say we're talking drugs and dirty cops – now you can see why I need my best man on it.”

Thinking about the desperation in the young voice, and putting it together with Giles's persona, Spike figured this involved a school. A school, drugs and dirty cops. Oh yeah, he was in.

5) James and Wolfling's Sands of Time series.
Xander, avoiding a beating from his father, runs to Giles' house. Everything changes from there.

Xander woke up on the couch, the blanket all tangled above him. Not really providing warmth, but he didn't really need it to. Protection, maybe, from the dreams he didn't want to have, something to wad up in his hands and hang onto while he slept. The pillow was soft, almost too soft, but he didn't want to complain. Didn't want to hear the 'if you don't find it comfortable, there is always the other option.'

He didn't expect to hear it, not really. But he did expect to hear it, as well. Three weeks, surely he'd have worn out his welcome by now.

He'd only stayed over on seven occasions, nights when he knew going home would be bad, or when he just couldn't bring himself to leave Giles' warm, welcoming apartment and go home to... home. This was the first time he'd stayed two nights in a row. His stomach clenched briefly as he got up, and looked towards the kitchen.

Giles was already up, busy making breakfast. Xander knew that there would be enough for two and that he would be expected to eat. Not that Giles ever ordered him to, he'd just give him that mild questioning look and Xander's conscience and stomach would do the rest.

Thanks for including me!

I've never read Sands of Time, but I'm definitely going to. As for the other three -- all excellent.

Glad you like.

And while I'm here, I believe you own BtVS Top Five? There's a question on another post of mine. I posted one Avengers story and one Dr. Horrible story believing this rec was expanded to Jossverse and not just BtVS. Am I right? Are those stories okay?

I imagine our emails probably crossed one another's -- I've already replied, thanks for asking!
